November Favorites!!

My first favorites this month are two warm things that I cannot live without in the cooolllddd Southern Illinois weather!
A bulky crochet scarf & my recent coffee obsession Gloria Jean's Brown Sugar Cake. This coffee tastes like heaven in a cup. I love it! I got it at target, and I couldn't find it on the Keurig website when I went to search for a link.

I've been wearing my Viva La Juicy by Juicy Couture quite a bit this month. I love the way it smells, it's sweet without being completely over powering.  I don't like to wear a whole lot of make up during the week so having a bit of a tan is always a must (plus I HATE being pale). I wish I could go to a tanning bed, I know, I know, bad Emily! But it's true, I love sweating and actually getting color but I don't have time to got to a tanning bed every day so I use Jergens Natural Glow for body and face to keep a healthy glow up. Within the theme of not wearing much make up during the week I have been using Loreal Magic BB cream. This gives slight coverage & covers up the minor dark spots on my face, because I'm a 22 year old with sun damage. Awesome. (note how I talk about being obsessed with having a tan & then complain about sun damage in the SAME PARAGRAPH! I have issues.) I discovered Maybelline Dream Lumi Highlighting Concealer & I love it! So much love for this guy! Covers up all the disgusting dark circles under my eyes and makes me look like I actually got some sleep! Def. a plus! I use the shade nude, it has a peachy undertone to it so it cancels out the dark circles nicely. Maybelline Color Tattoo in Barely Branded is my favorite base, probably of all time. I still use a primer, but I'll put this on my lid as my primary shadow then usually add a matte brown to my crease and call it a day. Finally my new favorite mascara, which changes constantly, is the SmashBox Full Exposure. It literally coats every.single.lash. It isn't spidery and one coat could really be enough. I do more, because I am obsessed with lashes, but for normal people one coat would be plenty.

I have been loving these two necklaces from Maurice's.
They are definitely my most worn pieces this November.

I have been loving Revolution. It is AMAZING. Super sad they just had the fall finale. Check it out if you haven't, it is sooo good!

My favorite song this month is Gone, Gone, Gone by Phillip Phillips. I LURVE it. It makes me happy and makes me want to dance more than normal.

Plus Phillip Phillips is sooo cute! I choose him as a favorite too.

*NEW* Smashbox!!!

Smashbox Wondervison

I was nosing around the make up section in Macy's today, who knew Macy's had Smashbox, UrbanDecay, TooFaced, Stilla, etc….?? Not me!
Any who, I found this gem. It comes with a 6 pan pallet, a full sized Full Exposure mascara, a full sized Limitless eyeliner in onyx & 3 get the look cards.

There are 3 different versions of this box. This one: Flash and then Cosmic, a taupe and blue collection & Sparks, a pink and gold collection.

The top pink color is matte the next 3 are metallic finish and the last 2 are satin, as far as I can tell. I haven't used this yet, I just bought it today. So I don't know how anything applies. I have never tried any Smashbox before, but when I swatched the shadows in store they were the most luxurious, buttery feeling shadows I have ever felt! And that is exactly why I bought this.
I haven't been buying makeup lately, especially high end, unless I run out of something. So like I'll buy mascara when I need it. And last week a bought Miracle Blur primer and some under-eye concealer because I ran out and those are two MUST HAVES. Like seriously I cannot go without under-eye concealer, I don't sleep so I NEED it.  But I haven't been buying frivolous things because I just really can't afford it with starting the studio. But I was sad today, so in addition to the Christmas presents I bought, I snagged this for myself. It was $34 something with tax. I thought it was WELL worth this since the mascara is singly priced $19.50 and the eyeliner is $19 so that is $38 right there! Well worth $32 plus!

I'm suped excited to try these products out!

Crocheted Creations

}original pattern{
no, I didn't write one up. I might do that soon.

I have been crocheting up a storm the past couple months, that usually happens when it starts getting cold. I posted some pictures on my instagram and orders started rolling in Which was really weird, because it was only ever something that I did for myself. Not to mention it was really overwhelming with all the studio stuff I have going on. But it's fun for me nonetheless.

Chunky Infinity Scarf. SO WARM! One for myself and several for friends.
Pattern found here:

Cozy Cable Stitch Headbands
gifts - for my good friend Molly & her sister Megan
Pattern found here:

Infinity Scarf pattern by the Stingy Stitcher
Pattern here:

Puff Stitch Cowl - a gift for my momma
Original pattern, again I didn't write one up. But here is a tutorial on how to make a puff stitch.
Instead of repeating twice, I repeated 4 times, so I had 6 loops on my hook.

And finally here is one of the last ones I worked. And this was for myself! YAY!! It is so warm and cozy! I used 2 skeins Loops & Thread Charisma. And this pattern.

Review! NYX HD Studio Photogenic Primer.

Pores & Primer oh my!
I'm still trying to jump on the whole primer bandwagon. I understand the concept of primers and I think their probably an awesome thing if you can find one that actually works with your skin type.
The thing is, I never really needed one before. My skin has always been oily, but I have found foundation that works with that and I don't mind take 20 seconds to use a blotting sheet once a day, it's totally fine with me! But now ever since this whole dumb grad school train-wreck (click here for those details!) my skin has been doing some weird things. I started having awful breakouts; not just an occasional zit, but like awful cystic stuff I used to get in high school, my pores opened up to the size of moon craters & I started noticing these black heads that had not previously been an issue. I have the breakouts tamed, thank goodness! I had horrendous acne in high school and I'm always terrified my face, chest, & back will revert to that of 14-16 year old Emily's skin. And the blackheads are starting to disappear as well. I've been using baking soda masks & scrubs and I'm pretty sure that is helping. Anyway, I digress.
PORES! I have noticed them starting to shrink back up some, but they are still so so noticeable, so I think primer! That's the whole purpose, right? To smooth out fine lines and mask pores. Well I have yet to find one to help with these things and I am not made of money. But this is supposed to be my review on NYX HD Studio Photogenic Primer, so let me get to that.

This product did nothing for my face rather than turn it white. Which I get that it's supposed to make your face a crisp canvas for your makeup but this primer straight up turned my face white. And my face has less color than the rest of my body anyway because I put so much sunscreen on it. Not cool, primer! Now, maybe I'm too tanned but I'm not going to apologize for something I can't help! For the sake of trying new things I went ahead and went through my makeup application per usual, and everything went on like normal. So I was able to overlook the whole making me ghost-white detail. But there lies my issue, everything looked like normal, huge visible pores and all.
Not to mention it smells really weird, kind of sulfur-like. After I got my make up all finished my face felt really tight, it was pretty uncomfortable, really. And this wasn't just a sensation that lasted a hot minute, it lasted until I took the stuff off.

The bottle says: "...Light diffusing effect is perfect for studio photos or taking fun pics with pals." Well, the photographer in me said, might as well test out the "light diffusing effect" bit. I set up my studio lights and shot some photos with the lights, without the lights, with flash, & then with natural light using my reflectors. I shot with both my DSLR & my point and shoot. I did not notice a bit of difference than if I were to shoot with the same lighting techniques and no Photogenic Primer.

So all in all I would say this primer is a big ol' fail! It did not minimize my pores& it did not make my face look better in photos. It claims that it will "...keep you make-up fresh until the party is over." I cannot attest to that claim because it made my face feel so weird I could only stand my makeup to be on my face for about 4 or so hours each time I tested it. Yes, I did use it more than once to make sure I really hated it as much as I thought I did. Thank goodness I only spent about $12 on it, which still kind of irks me because that's $12 that could have been spent on something that I will actually use! Normally I try and use up my products even if I don't particularly like them because I really hate being wasteful. One of those principle things, but I cannot stand the way this makes me face feel. And it smells something awful.

It makes me really sad that my first official review is a negative one, but I just had to put out there how I feel about this product!
I went kind of nuts on the E.L.F. website today and ordered a bunch of new eyeshadows, lip sticks, & a bronzer so I hope to review some of those things once I get them. My fingers are crossed for a positive outcome. I've always had good luck with E.L.F. products in the past, but I'm trying some new things. At $1, $2, & $3 you can't hardly beat the price!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

April Favorites!!

I'm not entirely sure where April went. It kind of just flew by, especially since March seemed to drag on and on and on and on. But even though the month did seem to fly I found I have been using several products religiously & drinking more coffee than normal, which is a feat in itself. I have 10 favorites this month, a nice little number for my very first favorites post. Let's get started!

For the make-up favorites this month I have been obsessed with pink, clearly!
Pink cheeks, pink eyes, & pink lips.
I've recently rediscovered Wet 'n Wild and learned it is a way awesome line!
I have been using (1)Heather Silk blush from the Color Icon line almost every day. It's SO pigmented, just a little bit goes a long way and I luurrrve it!  I've also been using the (2)Sweet as Candy eye shadow trio from the Color Icon line. It's perfect for running around during the day and I've also been using it for low-key date nights. I've also been really enjoying using (3)Maybelline Color Tattoo Metals Barely Branded as a lid primer! It's one of those two-birds-one-stone things. It preps the lid and is also a really awesome shimmery base shadow.

hmmmm to continue with the pink or to continue with the eyes?!

Let's go with pink!
A lippie I have been crazy over this month is Maybelline Baby Lips - (4)Pink Punch. It's so amazingly pigmented for a lip balm. Baby Lips claim to last 8 hours, that's not so much true, but I don't really even care. It has SPF 20 and gives just the right amount of pink for a casual day running errands. Another lippie I have been using like nuts is (5)Revlon Just Bitten Kissbale Balm Stain - Honey. I'm not entirely sure why I'm obsessed with Honey, because it's basically my lip color, but hey, I love the stuff.
Back to the eyes!
I have a new found love for (6)Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara. I had been wanting to try this stuff out for a while but never really had the money to spend $19 on a mascara however badly I wanted it. Then low & behold one of Ulta's 21 days of beauty steals was Lights, Camera, Lashes on sale for $10... FOR A FULL SIZE TUBE! What?!? Was that real life? Yes, yes it was.
Anyways, that was back in March and I hoarded it until I got home from Georgia because I wanted to use it when people would actually notice me & the effort I put into my face.
I love love love the way this makes me lashes look: black, full, & oh so long. I want nothing more than to use it every day, but I'm back to hoarding it for weekends and days when see clients.
Another eye obsession this month is black (7)Jordana Fabuliner. It glides on my eyes really smoothly and the pointed felt tip is awesome for winging & tapering the liner to blend into my lash line. Plus it stays put & doesn't fade much at all throughout the day/night.
Toward the beginning of the month I purchased Real Techniques starter set, because my brushes all seemed to start to fall apart at the same time, cool story.
The set is an awesome eyeshadow brush set & I really love all the brushes that it came with and it was only $18 ish from Ulta & I didn't pay that much for it, I used my points so I had a wee bit of a discount. While I really enjoy using all the brushes the Deluxe Crease brush is my favorite, it's huge, fluffy, & blends eyeshadows together beautifully so my eyeshadow flows and doesn't have awkward harsh lines, those aren't cute.
Last but not least in beauty:
(8)Black Raspberry Vanilla body mist from Bath & Body Works has made a reappearance in my life. I bought this a year or so ago and used it for a while and then got tired of it like I do with some many things. But I was cleaning out my room when I moved home and found it, spritzed it, & fell in love all over again. I use it mostly every day, I've been loving the scent of all things vanilla-y lately. And that's a nice segue into my next favorite for April. I'm thinking this is on it's way to an all-time-favorite.
Folger's Gourmet (9)Vanilla Biscotti k-cups. I'm a huge coffee drinker and caffeine addict in general, I would like to say I want to join a support group or something to stop, but honestly I don't give a damn and will likely continue my bad bad habit.  Anyways, I drink 2 -3 of these bad boys a day. Black with 2 sugars. And by sugar I do mean Splenda, also a bad bad habit. Again, I don't really care, I luurrve it! It's so fantastic.
Go out and purchase a Keurig and some Folgers, you won't regret it. Blame me for your newfound coffee addiction. You won't be the first I've corrupted.

And for my final favorite:
I leave you with a song.
I Want Crazy - Hunter Hayes
It's perfect for rolling all the windows down, playing loudly, & singing at the top of my lungs. Everyone already knows I'm loud & obnoxious, might as well, right?
Plus it's pretty much how I've been feeling this month. Things are starting to look up for this girl!

Things I've learned this month:
Moving back in with your parents after 3.5 years on your own in your own apartment is quite difficult.
Moving from an apartment to yourself to your childhood room is challenging;
Where do you put everything?
Free gym membership through college is the best thing ever, take full advantage of it.
Starting a business is hard freaking work.
Okay, so I already knew this. I just thought I would have a few more years to build a client base. Ha funny plan, chickie.
Man plans. God laughs.
I do not now, nor will I ever, want to be an investment banker, I wish those people would stop calling me to interview for their open positions.
Blogging is fun.

Thanks so much for reading about my April favorites!
What are your favorites for this month? Let me know in the comments!

Must Haves: Summer 2013! {Hair and Beauty}

Hair & Beauty Summer Must Haves on My Favorite Day! Summer is my all time favorite time of year. From Cardinals' baseball & concerts in the city to days on the lake & long nights in the country with my friends & family, I love every minute of every summer.
Summer is a big picture-taking season, there are many events like baseball games, concerts, tailgates, dates and parties of all kinds. I want you all to be looking your best!
We'll start at the top. No one wants to have their hair looking and feeling like straw from the humidity and drying chemicals in pools. And no one wants their hair weighed down flat from products that keep hair soft. I love my hair to be soft AND big, for years it was either one or the other for this girl! Those days are officially in the past, thanks to these two awesome products!
This cream is heaven in a bottle. I spray it all over my hair after I wash it and then comb the product through to disperse it evenly throughout my locks.
As you might have guessed, it has 10 benefits for your locks. It repairs dry hair, adds shine, detangles, a thermal protector, enhances body, & creates silkiness, to name a few benefits. I have long blonde hair (that I don't have trimmed as often as I should) so my ends would get super dry and brittle if I didn't coat them with a nice creamy conditioner. The awesome thing about this product is it doesn't weigh my hair down and I am able to get nice, big beachy waves OR I can smooth my hair with a flat iron without damaging it to no end. It's pretty much an all-in-one product, I only use one other product on my hair most days in the summer.

That one other product is Paul Mitchell Forever Blonde Dramatic Repair.

I concentrate this product on my ends and very blonde strands.
This product is also a light weight spray, and one might think it is a bit redundant to use to corrective sprays, but the product has a few essential oils in it that It's a 10 does not. It is just another precaution so my hair doesn't become super damaged, like it has been in the past. (I'm a little bit paranoid and want to keep my hair strong and healthy.)

Now, on to products I love to keep my face looking healthy and glowing.

This is a product I NEVER skip no matter the season. Skin cancer is a serious deal, gals. Keep your face and body protected year-round. **end rant** Anyways! After I cleanse and moisturize my face I apply this sunscreen liberally to my face, neck, shoulders and chest. My skin is very sensitive and acne prone, lots of products in the past that have claimed to be aimed toward my skin-type were indeed NOT. I am THRILLED to say that this product works wonders. I wear it daily and do not have problems with breakouts. *yay!*

This awesome product packs a huge moisturized punch for my face after a long day outdoors. I spend most of my free time by a pool, on a lake, at baseball games, etc. So, I'm outdoors a lot! This product is nice and refreshing after I come inside from a long hot day. After I wash my face and go about my normal face care routine I will mist this on my face to get another bit of refreshment. And sometimes, even though I preach sunscreen, there are times when I do get burnt. This mist really packs in the moisture to prevent peeling.

 NARS Laguna and Orgasm
I rarely use foundation in the summer. I just dust Laguna all over my face with a large powder brush. Then take a fluffy blush brush and dust Orgasm on the apples of my cheeks then up my cheek bones and on the bridge of my nose and right above each of my eyebrows. This keeps my face from looking shiny yet still adds a bit of an extra glow.

And now for those peepers!

I'll use just a dab of this cream shadow on my lids for a bit of extra definition on my eyes. This product is super long wearing and lasts all day even though sweat.

Urban Decay 24/7 liner in Perversion and Flipside - respectively

This liner is sooo long-lasting it's not even funny. It will last through a Cardinals game in July. This is somewhat akin to lasting through a stroll through the fires of hell. That stadium is so hot and sitting there you get so sweaty but these liners stay PUT. I use Perversion on my upper lash line and Flipside on my lower for a fun pop of color.

I'm always on the hunt for waterproof mascara because of the aforementioned reason. I used to spend gobs of money on MUFE Aqua Lash because it was the only thing and wouldn't make me look like a raccoon by midday. Thanks GOODNESS I have found this product. It gets the job done excellently and is a fraction of the cost of Aqua Lash.

No one likes to kiss dried up, sunburnt lips so keep your pucker moisturized and protected from the sun with some lip balm! My favorite is Maybelline Baby Lips not only because they are super moisturizing and are SPF 20, but also because they have a sheer tint to them so I don't have to worry about a heavy lip stick I can keep my look light and fresh with these gems.

     And for the body

I have been using Aveeno for years. It's cheap and I haven't found a lotion that moisturizes quite like this guy does. I rarely ever peel and I always feel like my skin is glowing. I smooth it all over my body after I shower and before bed, I don't necessarily NEED to do this because it really keeps me moisturized all day, it's really just a habit.

     Neutrogena Ultra Sheer SPF 30

Like I said before, sunscreen is an absolute MUST. I spray this on my body 10-20 minutes before I'll be in the sure to make sure it's good and soaked into my skin before sun exposure and then reapply every 2 hours or so and after towel drying if I get in the water. This product does sting your skin and goes on evenly both must-haves.

Coconut Lime Breeze - Bath and Body Works

To me this is what summer smells like, so I'll splash this on before I head out the door to go anywhere and I'll throw the mini version in my purse. I love it!

     Finishing touches - NAILS!

Red nail polish - ANY brand
I live in the heart of Cardinal Nation. We are baseball fanatics here in the Southern Illinois/St. Louis region. Baseball is in our blood. So, while many's summer polish of choice might be bright pink, mine is Cardinal Red.

Thanks so much for reading Part 1 of my Summer Must Haves here on My Favorite Day. I hope you share this with your friends and stay tuned for Part 2!

Skin Care: Night Time Routine!

Taking off your makeup and washing your face at night before bed is a step you should never, I repeat, NEVER skip. Going to bed with your makeup on is basically like posting on social media you’ll have free booze and food; all that bacteria build up from the day is going settle in and invite all their closest microbial infiltrating friends over to set up camp all up in your face. Not cool. In order to have clear, glowing skin it is crucial to remove your makeup, cleanse and exfoliate, tone, and moisturize.

For the last 3 or so weeks I have been using the Simple skin care line. I have really been enjoying the way it makes my face feel. (I have super sensitive skin. It is usually pretty oily but from time to time my face will go through a streak of being as dry as the Sahara, this streak typically lasts 2-3 days. It’s really weird.)

My bedtime facial routine goes a little something like this:
1. I begin using a cleansing wipe to remove all the makeup on my face. These wipes are even gentle enough to use on my eyes! And they usually take off all my waterproof eyeliner and mascara I tend to gravitate toward. (Sometimes I might have to add a bit of eye makeup remover to the wipe.)

2. After I get all the makeup off my face I went it with lukewarm water and massage a nickel-size amount of cleanser all over my face. This Simple cleanser is a gel product, so a little goes a long way. After I have the product spread on my face I wet my Olay spinbrush and move it all around my face. This really breaks up any dirt, grime, etc. left on my face and cleans out my pores. This step usually takes 30 second to a minute, depending on how tired I am or how stressed I am (it really relaxes me for some reason.) After that’s all done I rinse the brush out well. And rinse my face really well with cool water to help close those pores! Then pat my face dry.

3. I let my face dry for a minute or so then I use my toner, also Simple at this point. I’ll saturate a cotton ball and rub it on my face and down my neck. Toner cleans up any residual grime on the mug and helps to close those pores even more. (My pores happen to be annoyingly huge, no matter what I try. However, this product line is helping to close those guys.)

4. And finally moisturize, moisturize, MOISTURIZE! It’s so important, a lot of oily skin girls think that because their skin is oily they can skip this step, FALSE! Don’t do that, your skin will over compensate for lack of moisture and produce more oil, making your face more oily than necessary!  Not so awesome, right? I really like this moisturizer in particular because it is really hydrating without making my skin feel oily or look oily. And with this I only need about a pea size of product, once again a little bit goes a long way.

And there ya have it! Those are the steps I go through every night before bed, pretty low maintenance while still cleansing thoroughly.
